MLP's Direct Service Programs

Mindful Life Project is a pioneer in innovative direct service mindfulness. In line with our Theory of Change, MLP believes in providing direct service mindfulness to students in Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grades as these are pivotal developmental years for young people. MLP believes in providing direct service programming as it brings about deeper impacts. These deeper impacts are created through consistent weekly programming, a highly trained MLP Coach who is a trusted adult on campus, and offering opportunities for both students and teachers to participate in the programming.  Through culturally conscious and trauma informed best practices, MLP has been able to grow our direct service programs over the years to support over 20,000 students annually, tens of thousands of educators, and school site leadership.

Mindful Community

Mindful Community is MLP's whole-school program, where every student in a partner school receives a mindfulness-based SEL lesson weekly. In Mindful Community, students learn mindfulness-based social-emotional and emotional intelligence skills alongside one another during the regular school day. Our programming is designed to connect with everyday experiences of students through trauma-informed, culturally relevant, age appropriate, and data driven models. Mindful Community helps students learn, understand, and accept emotions using key inter- and intra-personal skills such as understanding, empathy, concentration, self-awareness, and self-confidence. Lessons are 25-minutes long and delivered once per week to every classroom in a partner school, creating a foundational understanding of mindfulness, wellness, and emotional health within a school community.

Rise Up

Rise Up

To complement Mindful Community’s whole school approach, we support the most “high need” students in our deeper intervention and prevention pullout program, Rise-Up. In Rise-Up, we support eight students per grade level to deepen their mindfulness practice using expressive arts, yoga and performing arts to release stress and trauma so that they can thrive in the whole school community. Rise Up specifically focuses on the inner exploration of past lived experiences. This helps students learn emotional regulation tools so that they can respond thoughtfully instead of react. Rise Up's small group cohort acts an emotionally safe space where students can build community through mindfulness and understanding.

Family and Teacher Mindfulness Sessions

To emphasize that wellness in our youth is drastically impacted by the mental health and wellness of the adults in their lives, Mindful Life Project offers curated Teacher and Family Mindfulness sessions. Teacher sessions focus around how to cultivate a wellness practice both at-home and on-campus, emphasizing themes such as self-care, stress management techniques, and non-judgement. Family sessions aim to promote wellness and mindfulness as a familial unit at home. Sessions focus on core mindfulness themes such as gratitude and heartfulness to encourage the whole family, from young person to parental figure, to practice mindfulness together. Both Teacher Mindfulness Sessions and Family Mindfulness Sessions help cultivate wellness for the entire school community. MLP's characteristic approach to whole-community wellness aims to transforms the systems that often induce stress, anxiety, and trauma. By offering adults the space to practice mindfulness, we hope that it also encourages students to do the same.
